According to Telekom's announcement, the 2G network will be completely switched off on June 30, 2028. The 3G network has already been switched off in recent years.

The 2G network is mainly used by IoT devices, machine controls or other M2M devices that require a constant connection without large amounts of data.

The shutdown means that older IoT devices, as well as GPS trackers that are not yet 4G/5G capable, will fail. Since today's devices are all at least 4G capable, an upgrade is possible.
